Festival Technical Manager

Reporting to: Underbelly Production Management, Operations Manager

Working with: Venue Technical staff, Site Management, Operations staff

Position type: Seasonal Contract

Fee details: £700+/week dependant on experience

Employment period: March to October 2019, six days per week (exc. build/strike periods)

We are looking for a Technical Manager to work with Underbelly’s Production department at this year’s Underbelly Festival on London’s Southbank. The successful applicant will assist the Production department in the planning and delivery of all technical elements of Underbelly’s Venues at the Southbank site. They will work closely with all venue technical staff to ensure the continued high quality audiences have come to expect from Underbelly, and to fulfil the technical requirements of all of our visiting companies.

KEY DUTIES

Crewing and management of venues with technical staff.

Liaising with visiting companies to the venues on production schedules (rehearsals, tech time, etc.), arranging of sub-hires, and ensuring their technical needs are met.

Collation and administration of Risk Assessments and other necessary paperwork for all companies and performances within the venues.

Management of quotes and hire contracts with suppliers within budgets.

Delivery on the design and distribution of venue technical specifications.

Assist with and participate in the build & strike management of the venues & site.

Advising on needs and issues for potential future Underbelly festivals.

Attend regular production meetings

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

3-5 years’ work experience in a relevant field, specifically technical/production management of theatre and events.

Operating knowledge of modern lighting, sound, and AV equipment.

Have experience of rigging in a temporary venue environment.

Strong planning, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

Experience in team management, with good communication and motivational skills.

Quick, creative thinking and problem solving, with confidence and independent decision making under pressure.

Disciplined and resourceful with restricted, specific budgets.

Proven ability to establish networks within the arts and support the needs of artists.

Competency with Microsoft Office, Apple OS, QLab, and other industry relevant software.

Empathy with the goals and philosophy of Underbelly Festivals, including a enthusiasm to get hands dirty with the technical team where needed.

Enjoy working in a busy festival environment with a varied and challenging programme of shows.

OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS

Full clean driving license.

Experience of working at height with a fall arrest system.

Competency with AutoCAD.

Interest and enthusiasm for the arts in all its forms.
