Circus Maximus 2015 Finalists Announced

Underbelly and the National Centre for Circus Arts are delighted to announce the finalists for the 2015 edition of the UK’s premiere circus competition, Circus Maximus!
This year will see the broadest ever range of circus skills, from contortion to unicycling via a huge variety of acrobatics, balancing and juggling, exhibited by a selection of the nation’s finest performers.
- Heat One, on Tuesday April 14, features master hula-hooper Annabel Carberry, Thibaut Lezervant’s unique blend of virtuoso juggling and slapstick clowning, noir acrobatic beauty from Duo Su, and elegance and athleticism both on the slackrope from Linn Brodén, and on the aerial hoop from Le Renn.
- Heat Two, on Wednesday April 15, treats the audience to hand-to-hand balancing from JD & Nikki, music, rhythm and juggling from Stewart Pemberton (Juggling on Tap), extraordinary physicality on the Chinese pole from Hauk Pattison & Sasha Kavaleva, supernatural contortion by Claudia Hughes and tightrope by Eva (a.k.a Elena Cassoto).
- Heat Three, on Thursday April 16, sees further energy, artistry and sheer talent on the tightrope from Hanna Moisala, on the aerial straps Jair Ramirez, in hand-to-hand balancing by Joli Vyann, on the unicycle from Sam Gooburn, and through a blend of aerial hoop and acrobatic contortion dance from Zero Central.
- Heat Four, on Friday April 17, will play host to yet more astonishing spectacle in juggling from Tom Gaskin, aerial straps from Angeliki Nikolakaki, the magnificent Cyr Wheel from Alula, intricate rope balancing on the static double cloudswing from Maxime Yelle and aerial acrobatics from Charline Kandilian.
The winner of each heat, along with a wildcard chosen by a judging panel will go through to the final, where the audience will vote to choose the final winner.
Circus Maximus is a dazzling Circus-Cabaret, ringmastered by Underbelly’s very special MC, cabaret and theatre maestro, writer and performance artist Christopher Green (Tina C, Ida Barr), and showcasing a quite breathtaking range of world class circus skills as each performer or troupe bids to win the grand prize of £4,000 cash, a year of support from the National Centre For Circus Arts, and the opportunity to create a new Circus Show with Underbelly Productions!
